SUMMER 2017 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT LIBERTY PLAZA RESOURCE CENTER

Become a…
Breakfast and Lunch Assistant- We are a site for the St. Paul Public Schools Summer Food program. We serve free breakfast and lunch to school age children and youth Monday-Friday. We need help with set-up, serving, clean-up and recordkeeping. The time commitment is flexible- 1 up to 5 hours a week. Breakfast is served Noon-1:00PM. Lunch is served 3:15-4:00PM

Reading Mentor- Be a personal reading coach and reading role model for children who need support to become proficient readers, and share your love of reading as you engage in one-to-one and small group literacy development activities with children in K-4th grade.
The time commitment is flexible- 1 to up to 5 hours a week Monday-Friday, 11:00AM – Noon.

PLUS-Time Assistant- Do you enjoy being with active elementary school age children in a culturally diverse environment? Do you have a love for art and recreational activities? This opportunity is for you. The time commitment is flexible- 1 up to 20 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 1:00 – 5:00PM.

Teens with Technology Assistants- If you enjoy working with middle and high school youth and are tech-savvy this opportunity is for you. Teens with Technology is a unique, teen-led program that focuses participants on learning about and using digital technology to improve their community. The program meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:00-5:00PM. Scheduling within those times is flexible.

Fresh Produce Distribution Assistant- Second Harvest Heartland delivers fresh fruit and vegetables to Liberty Plaza on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. Families can select a box containing a variety of produce. Each event runs from Noon – 3:00PM. You are welcome to commit to as many or few distribution events as your schedule allows. Schedule:
- Noon-2:00PM- Room set-up and preparing boxes. This work involves bending, stretching, and lifting of boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
- 1:30-2:30PM- Sign in recipients on 1st come/1st served basis.
- 2:00-2:30PM- Distribution- greet each recipient, help them select a box, and direct them in and out of the distribution area.
-Clean-up (2:30-3:00PM).
